RiotControl 16

download:

RiotControl 16

Growling bass, tropical beats, LA, floating video game sounds, and "junk" as my friend recently coined the music in the latter half of this mix.

El Botellon - Uproot Andy
Out of the whole Bersa Discos series (which is all solid), for me, Uproot Andy killed it on #4. All three of his remix tracks on there are sick. I don't know all the originals (Anybody?) but whatever - really well done. See here for background on "La Vida Vale La Pena", via Dutty Artz. #4 came out last year but I didn't hear these tracks until recently.

Pull It - Shystie (Ill Blu RMX)
1 of 2 tracks on here I basically trainspotted off Jubilee. I love the horn intro with that mangled up auto-tuned MC.

Re-Up - Joker and Ginz
You already know what it is re: Joker. *Also great: the remix he did this summer of "How you like me now."

Stagga RMX - Doshy
In the tradition of Kruder and Dorfmeister, Doshy (from Berlin) took the original tune, kept like one thing, and made a whole new song. Really well-done. I love the floating hyper-synth gooey-ness, and all the different influences this dude put into one track. I had people grinding to this one night. Their baby will come out very good at video games.

Rustie vs. Dorrough (Burt's Blend)

Again, you already know Rustie. "Bad Science" is too sick. I thought our mix could use a vocal at this point so I screwed Dorrough. I first heard "Ice Cream Paint Job" this summer at 5 AM at Drai's in Vegas. I think Rustie would love the hip hop room at Drai's in Vegas. It was fun. It's like a dirty south club on steroids. I'm never going back.

Hold The Line - Major Lazer (Skream RMX)
Benga and Skream at Le Poisson Rouge this summer was def. the biggest dubstep thing I've ever seen in NYC. No? I think so. Shit was crazy.

Kick Drum - Felix The Housecat
2 of 2 I got off Jubilee. She played this at the last Flashing Lights party. FELIX. Who knew.

Let Me See What U Workin' With (Rustie RMX)
More Rustie. More retarded gully synth beats.

Round One - Gucci Mane (Salem RMX)
I like "Haffa" and whatever else I've heard from Salem. This growling bass rmx is nice. But Salem, why u gotta release the vocal off time in the intro? Fucking weirdos. Throws off my mix every time I use this track.

Zoom - Hudson Mohawke
Song of the show? More growling bass, and wtf is that growling human voice in the background of the bass??

Purple Smoke - Black Chow
Who is Black Chow? What language is that? This sounds like The Bug on the boards maybe?

Zombie - Fauna
This is from one of the many nice Cumbia releases DJ Rupture has put out. I was at one of their tropical parties and whatever Rupture played for the early set was awesome.. It was some slow cumbia remix stuff of older records with just some simple 808 sub bass propelling it along.. Anyone?

Simon Says vs. $tunts (Burt's Blend)
I bought the original Mr. Oizo track that Flying Lotus used on this in a bargain bin once. He basically screwed the original, added his signature sounds to it, and the track is suddenly so much sicker. Always screw every sample. You never know.

Beatles Bitch - Mono Poly
More sickness from LA.

Biggie vs. Roots Manuva (Nice Up! White Label)
Nice blend idea, whoever made it, and the only actual vinyl I used on this episode. I still buy wax, but it just makes sense to buy digital for most new releases. That's why there's no vinyl photo this time..

Exhibit C - Jay Electronica (Radio Rip)
Just Blaze recently played some new stuff on Shade 45 and the internet promptly went nutz. (I looked but the only available version of this rip has those few audio hiccups in it.) Check the lyrics here.

You've Got The Love - The XX RMX
Again, song of the show? Internet also going nutz over this one. It's free out there..

Human Meadow - Falty DL
Falty DL from Brooklyn.. Nicely done. I want to see this dude. "To London" is a great non-album track also..

Rawkus - Brackles
I like the bass on this one. It's kind of like a b-more pattern, but with a sub bass. Brackles is a really good dj also. We saw him at Love recently (which has fallen off so hard, wtf happened to Love? That was my fav club/sound system. ) I'm not into all the house stuff but he's a solid dj. He was tearing through records. BRACKLES.

Bad - Kode 9 vs LD
Similar vibe. Kode 9 is always sick and progressive. The monster clap is nasty.

Miracles - Starkey (Jamie Vexd RMX)
Jamie Vexd is incredible. Every track is like this super-clean, malleable, ball of what the fuck. And it's not some IDM glitchy shit. This dude (s?) makes very cool music.

Fall In Love - Miguel Atwood - Ferguson & Carlos Nino
Nice Sonny Noir outro selections..

E Depois Do Adeus - Paulo De Carvalho

Enjoy,

-Burt
